Dance, tumble, sing, act, sculpt, paint, and create! Explore the performing and visual arts in this ongoing program for preschool students. This process-oriented curriculum provides a creative environment for children to grow in confidence as they work together learning new motor, social, and cognitive-attention skills. The instructor guides the children by setting up an environment that elicits learning.
Curriculum
Our curriculum was written by the
Fine Arts Academy director Michelle
Denny, B.A. (early childhood education).
Her years of experience as a
kindergarten teacher and fine-arts
director laid the foundation for this
well balanced curriculum.
The instructor Johanna Carlisle is a certified Elementary teacher as well as a preschool teacher with experience in NAEYC accredited schools.
The assistant Cate Babel has a bachelors in Dance and experience teaching in Montessori school. She will also teach the dance class daily.
The program seeks to reach the part of the individual that is a composer rather than a player, an originator rather than an interpreter, a creator rather than an imitator.

Elements of the Fine Arts Preschool Experience
| Visual Arts Students are given open-ended group, as well as individual, projects daily. Students have access to a wide variety of natural artistic media, and they are given ample time and space to explore and extend their artistic ideas. Students will have the opportunity to display their artwork in the Academy’s art show. |
Theater Students are welcomed into a variety of dramatic play environments. These environments are initially set up by the instructors; however, throughout the year students will begin to create their own theatrical scenes for daily play. Students will culminate the year with their own theatrical production. |
| Music Music plays a large part in child development. Students will participate in music circle each day. They will learn songs, and play a wide variety of instruments. They will also be encouraged to create their own songs and instruments. They will incorporate musical theater into their year end production. |
Dance Students will learn tap, jazz, ballet, and tumbling skills in the program as well. They will be given a safe structure in which to explore creative movement principles of space, force, and time. A wide variety of props will be incorporated to elicit creative expression. Students will perform in Dance Discovery’s spring dance recital. |
